Punjab Pollution Control Board is monitoring surface water i.e. River- Satluj, Beas, Ghaggar, Ravi and major drains of the State under National water Quality monitoring Programme (NWMP) funded by Central Pollution Control Board. Presently, the Board is monitoring these rivers/drains at 47 locations (Table-I) for 23 parameters. Samples are collected on monthly basis and are analyzed in the Head Office, Laboratory as well as in Zonal Laboratories at Ludhiana and Jalandhar. The analysis results of various parameters are sent to Central Pollution Control Board, through hard as well as soft copy.
Punjab Pollution Control Board is also monitoring river Sutlej at nine locations (Table-II) under National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) of Central Pollution Control Board, on monthly basis.
The Board is monitoring wetlands of the State viz. Harike, Kanjli, Ropar and Nangal when funds are received from the respective schemes sanctioned by Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. Of India.
The Board is monitoring various Drains, Canals and Ponds. The samples are collected by various regional Offices and are analysed by the Head Office, Laboratory as well as Zonal Laboratories at Ludhiana and Jalandhar.
