The State Board after the enactment of Hazardous Waste (Management & Handling) Rules, 1989, as amended from time to time had taken up the task for proper collection, Storage and disposal of Hazardous Waste by the industries, so as to save the environment from being contaminated.
The application for authorization is received online on the composite application form in the concerned Regional office and processed for final decision as per the delegation of powers.
The Board has launched online system for grant of authorization under HWM module and is in operation since January, 2013. The Board accepts only online application for HWM authorization of all Large, Medium and Small Scale Industries.
For proper management of the hazardous waste generated from the industries, its treatment and disposal, one common treatment, storage and disposal facility has been created on 21.64 acre land at village Nimbuan Tehsil Dera Bassi, Distt. SAS Nagar which was commissioned on 3.10.2007 by the Hon'ble Chief Ministry, Punjab Sardar Parkash Singh Badal
At present 14 Regional officers, 7 Zonal Officers are looking after the work of proper management of this waste. The HWM Cell in Head Office Coordinate with field offices of the Board and compile the inventory of the industries generating hazardous waste and informs to Central Pollution Control Board. It also deals with the general issues relating to policy/clarifications etc.
