Background
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took Suo-Motu action on the news items appearing in 'The Tribune'dated 12.05.2014 under the Caption "Strench Grips Mansa's Sacred Ghaggar River". The proceedings in the matter were initiated before the Hon'ble National Green Tribunal, Principal Bench, New Delhi vide its order dated 07.08.2018. To Ensure the execution of the said order, an "Executing Committee" has been constituted for executing the orders of the Hon'ble Tribunal under Sec 25 of the NGT Act, 2010.

Mandate of the Committee
- The Committee will be entitled to issue appropriate directions to the concerned authorities for ensuring compliance with the orders of the Tribunal.
- The Target of the Committee will be to restore the standards of water in the river to the prescribed level.
- The Committee may carry outs personal visits, if necessary or call for information or reports.
- The Sampling of Ground water may also be done apart from the sampling of the river water periodically.
